Application of CSL (Cross Hole Sonic Logging) Tubes:
CSL tubes are tied to the rebar cage before a drilled shaft or bored pile is poured, then filled with water once concrete has cured. Sonic probes are passed down paired tubes to check the pile for voids, soil intrusions, or sand lenses — a standard quality assurance step on deep foundation work.
Features of CSL Tubes
– Steel construction (ASTM A53 Grade B) preferred over PVC, which can debond from concrete under hydration heat.
– Standard sizes: 1.5″ and 2″ OD, Schedule 40.
– Pre-threaded, supplied in lengths from 1 to 42 feet, cut to shaft depth.
– Malleable iron couplers and end caps for joining and closing sections.
– Also used for testing slurry walls, auger cast piles, mat foundations, and mass concrete pours.
More Introduction of CSL Tubes
Tube spacing and count are set based on shaft diameter before the pour — getting this right at design stage is what makes crosshole sonic logging possible after the fact, since tubes can’t be added once concrete is placed.
Note: Confirm required shaft depth and tube diameter (1.5″ or 2″) before ordering; complete mill test reports available.
